GATE EXAM 2014 INFORMATION AND NOTIFICATION

GATE Exam       
          Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an all India examination that primarily tests the comprehensive understanding of various undergraduate subjects in Engineering and Technology.  GATE is conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science and seven IITs (IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Madras and IIT Roorkee) on behalf of the National Coordination Board – GATE, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India.
               The GATE score of a candidate reflects the relative performance level of a candidate. The score is used for admissions to various post-graduate programmes (eg. M.E., M.Tech, direct Ph.D.) in Indian higher education institutes with financial assistance provided by MHRD and other Government agencies.  The score may also be used by Public sector units for employment screening purposes.
GATE 2013 was conducted by IIT Mumbai.

  • Over 500 institutes including the IISc, IITs and NITs require GATE score for admission to their ME, M.Tech and MS Programs.
  • A host of PSUs use GATE Scores for jobs in these organisations.
  • GATE is held on every second Sunday of February, every year.
  • The results for GATE are usually announced on 15th of March.
  • GATE score is valid for two years.
  • The paper has 65 questions – 30 one marks and 35 two marks questions. An aptitude section comprising of 5 one mark and 5 two mark questions, was introduced in GATE’10.
  • GATE qualified students are eligible for stipend of Rs. 8000/- per month.

Dates Of Examination
  • GATE 2014 examinations will be held during forenoon and afternoon on alternate weekends (Saturday and Sunday) between 1st February 2014 and 2nd March 2014. Examinations for some of the papers in GATE 2014 will be held in multiple sessions. Exact details regarding complete examination schedule will be notified at a later date.
  • Examinations for all the 22 papers will be conducted by an ONLINE MODE only Computer Based Test (CBT).
Application fee

Candidates have to apply only ONLINE
  • Rs 1500 for General/OBC male candidates
  • Rs 750 for women candidates
  • Rs 1500 for General/OBC other candidates
  • Rs 750 for the SC/ST/PD category candidates.
  • The Application fee can be paid either online or through a bank challan via SBI or Syndicate Bank.
  • The application fee is non – refundable
